I hungered, momentarily

(poem with a-b-c-a-b-d-c-d rhyme scheme called san san – prompt from napowrimo)

I hungered, momentarily, for that long-forgotten
taste of bitterness–a touch upon the versed
tongue, not washed away by the saccharine,
nor stinging like dashed hopes. Although often
it takes a while for those to be unearthed.
It came upon a sudden moment, biting–
something like sulfur, something like chlorine–
like a cold wind, ever-discerning.
