I welcomed the energy you had

I welcomed the energy you had at first.
It was much longer than a red hot minute.
It was minute, miniscule, a way out of
the disaster we called home. I believed you
at first; prompted, I spent time wasting away
the hours, minutes, and seconds of the day.
What a gentle thing to call it — what a laugh.
Late, I found that this was not what made me see
the stars, start thinking about the things I loved;
and the attempt had taken something from my
character, had taken substance. It was soon,
then, that I blasted out of there, a sonic
wave, or something else I know about physics.
